We’re building a team to pioneer how emergent technology will change design processes.
The Long View
Designers have always been here.
When Gutenberg’s press replaced the scribe, readers complained. Machine-made type gave them headaches. Fonts designed to mimic handwriting were described as having an uncanny valley effect.
Every technological shift meets resistance. Designers have an obligation to engage the technology and ensure it’s designed with ethics and empathy at its core.
Every time design was disrupted by tech, our work got bigger.
We believe AI is the biggest shift yet.

The scribe. Every mark a labored decision.

Gutenberg. Type at scale.
Now
AI tools. Design at new scale.
How We Work
AI is fast. Designers have taste.
The work at Brain Co. requires both.
We use AI to accelerate research, generate options, and remove low-value work from the process. But we don’t outsource judgment. We don’t outsource taste. We don’t outsource the decisions that actually matter to the people using what we build.
AI doesn’t compete with designers. Designers direct it. That distinction is the difference between a tool and a replacement.

The Honest Pitch
We are a small team of designers who believe the hardest problems deserve the best design. We came from Nike, Apple, Airbnb, Frog, Google, Meta, and Duolingo. We chose this.
We don’t have a design system for everything. We don’t have a process for every situation. We have taste, judgment, and the willingness to figure it out.

Who We’re Looking For
Designers who push back and then ship.
Problem over medium
You don’t default to screens. You follow the problem into whatever form it needs to take — service, system, interface, or all three.
Research and craft
You believe the quality of the output reflects the quality of the thinking that produced it. You hold both to a high standard.
Push back and ship
You’re not a service provider. You’re a partner. You challenge briefs, propose alternatives, and then execute with discipline.
Comfortable with uncertainty
You thrive in ambiguity. You’re energized by problems that don’t have a template, and frustrated by ones that do.
We’re not always hiring for a specific role. We’re always interested in the right person.
